Zelma Lee Sweeney Ward

Services for Zelma Lee Sweeney Ward, 75, of Belton will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel AME Church in Belton with Dr. William Quickley and the Rev. Roscoe Harrison Jr. officiating.

Burial in the Old North Belton Cemetery.

Mrs. Ward died Monday, March 31, in a local hospital.

She was born July 16, 1932, to Charlie and Connaola Sparks Sweeney in Kelso in Williamson County. She was a member of Bethel AME Church in Belton for more than 50 years. She graduated from T. B. Harris High School in 1950. She worked for the Inn at Scott & White for 22 years. She married James Gatson Sr. in 1951 and later married Eugene Ward on Sept. 9, 1974. She was active in the West Belton-Harris Ex-Students Association. She was preceded in death by both husbands; and a son, James Gatson Jr.

Survivors include a sister, Connie Demerson of Belton; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Friday with a wake from 6-7 p.m. Friday at Branford/Dawson Funeral Home in Temple.
