Belton jumps into second in 13-5A girls golf; Ralston shoots 78 to lead Temple

Belton fired a 348 Wednesday afternoon at Sammons Golf Links to jump into second place, and Temple carded a 366 to hold on to third after the second round of the District 13-5A Tournament.

The Lady Tigers (385-348-733) trail leader College Station A&M Consolidated (321-313-634) by 99 strokes, and the Tem-Cats (383-366-749) are another 16 shots back heading into the final round April 9 at The Courses of Clear Creek on Fort Hood.

The top two teams and top two other individuals will advance to the Class 5A Region II Tournament April 22-23 at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco.

“We still left some strokes out there today,” Belton coach Sherry Ayers said. “We feel like we can make even more improvement in the final round.”

Temple’s McKenzie Ralston (86-78-164) and Belton’s Hilary Elrod (87-77-164) are tied for fourth in the individual standings.

Jordin Moreno (94-85-179), Paige Hitt (97-94-191), Karly Houchin (106-109-215) and Cat Leavitt (116-109-225) rounded out the Tem-Cats’ card.

Kessler Tormey (102-83-185), Courtney Weise (95-89-178), Courtney Cryer (101-99-200) and Katelynne Chamness (104-106-210) finished off the Lady Tigers’ round.
