TC (23-18) pushed its winning streak to seven games. The Leopards, who stand third in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference at 11-9, will battle second-place Weatherford in four games this week, beginning Wednesday at TC.
“This is one of those series that will put us in a real good spot if we get two or three wins or a real tough spot if we don’t,” Temple coach Craig McMurtry said. “They’re good and it’ll be tough. We’ll see how much we want it.”
In Saturday’s first game, former Temple Wildcat Gaines (5-2) pitched six innings of one-hit ball, struck out 10 batters and walked none. Travis Trial and Zach Butler each hit a home run to highlight the Leopards’ 13-hit attack.
Holland graduate Spinn (3-2) was sharp in the finale, allowing one hit and no walks. Michael DeLaRosa blasted two homers and drove in four runs for TC, and Tabor Smith, Chase Cline and Darren Crabtree each hit a homer.
Daniel Meadows and Courtney Behrend are scheduled to be the Leopards' starting pitchers against Weatherford in Wednesday's 3 p.m. doubleheader at TC.
