Several local softball squads make postseason

Playoff pairings for area softball teams are taking shape as seven clubs will journey into the postseason this week.

Temple and Belton are set for three-game bi-district series against a pair of Round Rock schools.

Temple will host Round Rock High in the opening game of the series at 7 p.m. Game two will be at Round Rock at 6 p.m. Friday with a third game to follow 30 minutes afterward if necessary.

The Tem-Cats (10-19) enter playoffs as the fourth-place team from District 13-5A. Round Rock is the top seed from 14-5A coming out of a three-way tie with Round Rock Westwood and Leander. The Lady Dragons were awarded the top seed based on its season record. District officials decided not to have a multi-tiered playoff to separate the teams.

Belton (23-6) will also be at home for its opening series game against Westwood (20-8). The Lady Tigers will travel to Westwood for the second game Friday at 6 p.m. with a third game set 30 minutes afterward if neeeded.

Belton, which lost to Westwood 2-1 earlier in the season, finished second in 13-5A with a 10-2 mark. Westwood takes the third seed from 14-5A.

Tickets for both of the 5A playoff series will be $4 for adults and $2 for students.

In Class 3A, Gatesville will take on Liberty Hill in a one-game playoff on Friday at 7 p.m. in Lampasas. Gatesville finished second in 17-3A, while Liberty Hill was third in 18-3A.

Bruceville-Eddy is returning to the postseason again in the 2A ranks, facing Dublin on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Stephenville High. The Lady Eagles were third in District 12-2A behind Crawford and Clifton. Dublin took second in 11-2A.

Rosebud-Lott, which took second in District 25-2A, has set its bi-district playoff with Lexington for 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Rockdale.

Rogers defeated Academy 9-4 on Monday to take the third playoff spot from the district. The Lady Eagles will advance to meet Onalaska in a best-of-three series on Friday and Saturday with a location to be determined.

Granger will meet Flatonia in a three-game series. The teams will square off Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Elgin. The series will resume Saturday in Brenham at 6 p.m. with a third game to follow if needed.
