Charlie E. Voelter Sr.

Services for Charlie E. Voelter Sr., 72, of Temple will be 11 a.m. Monday at Temple Bible Church with the Rev. Gary Desalvo officiating.

A private family burial will be held at another time.

Mr. Voelter died Thursday in a local hospital.

He was born July 29, 1935, to Charles W. Voelter and Abbie Dora Stone Voelter in Temple. He grew up in Temple and graduated from Temple High School and was active in football and band. He married Cecelia Baker. He received a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Texas A&M University and began his career in Austin. Returning to Temple he owned his own business for many years. He designed and oversaw the construction for replication of the SPJST building in downtown. He designed many schools, churches, industrial buildings, office buildings, the Temple Civic Theatre building, the Bell County Expo Center and many residences. He continued consulting, until shortly before his death. He was the organist at Immanuel Lutheran Church for many years. He was a member of the original Highlighters at Temple High School and a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. For more than 15 years, he was with the Jay DuBose orchestra and dance band. He served on the Board of Governors with the Temple Civic Theater, directing and performing as well. He was an active member of the Temple Lions Club and performed with the Salado Theatre. He was on the founding board of Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and was a representative to the National Convention. He was a member of Temple Bible Church since 2000, serving many years as a small group leader for chemical dependent people and later involved in Celebrate Recovery.

Survivors include his wife of Temple; a son, Chuck Voelter of Austin; three daughters, Alison Freeman of Mansfield, and Kecia Daughett and Anissa Patrick, both of Temple; a brother, Bill Voelter of Adeline; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Christian Farms Tree House, 3804 Riverside, Temple, Texas 76502.

The family will receive friends at the church before the service. Friends may also sign the register at Sheffield Funeral Home today until 7 p.m.
