Services for retired Maj. Robert Lee Fitzsimmons Sr., 68, of Temple will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple with the Rev. Scott Matthews officiating.
Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery.
Mr. Fitzsimmons died Sunday at his residence.
He was born in Central City, Neb., to Robert Emmitt Fitzsimmons and Estella Houghton Fitzsimmons. He married Sandra Patterson on April 23, 1966. During his service in the Army he received the Silver Star; Bronze Star with four oak leaf clusters; Purple Heart; Air Medal; Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters and V device; Combat Infantryman Badge; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea); National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with one silver and one bronze service stars; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with two palms; and Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal. After retiring from the Army he worked in supply at the V.A. Hospital and operated Fitzsimmons Trucking Company. He was a Presbyterian and member of American Legion Post No. 133.
Survivors are his wife of Temple; two sons, Robert Fitzsimmons Jr. and Matthew Fitzsimmons, both of Temple; a sister, Sharell McNeil of Phoenix; and three grandchildren.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
