ROCKDALE — Services for Myrle W. Stokes, 92, of Rockdale will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with the Rev. Chris Osborne and the Rev. Margaret Clemings officiating.
Burial will be 2:30 p.m. in Memory Gardens in Cuero.
Mrs. Stokes died Monday, May 12, in a Rockdale nursing center.
She was born May 13, 1915, in Smiley to W.A. and Julia Thigpen Neely. She married Pete Stokes in November 1977 in Cuero. He preceded her in death. She lived in Cuero for 47 years. She was an L.V.N. for more than 40 years, working in hospitals in Cuero and San Antonio. She worked in a church library for 18 years. She taught art for 13 years. She studied art under Delhart Winberg from 1960-1968. She was a graduate of Smiley High School.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie Ruth Cowen, a son, James W. McKinney and a great-grandson, Arthur Scott Praesel.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Praesel of Rockdale and Frances Gregory of Brazoria; two brothers, Dwight Neely of Floresville, and Bill Neely of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Mildred Randolph of Karnes City, and Patsy Drake of San Antonio; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
