Move over, Joe Six-pack. Texans love their wine, and the surge in Lone Stare wineries - more than 150 and growing - has resulted in a grape shortage. Texas winemakers say they can´t find enough of those plump, juicy, purple and golden clusters, ripened in the summer sun, ready for crushing and fermentation.

SAN ANGELO - For nearly two months, Texas child welfare officials had insisted conditions at a polygamist group´s ranch were so abusive that none of its members should be allowed to keep their children. Now, however, one of the largest custody cases in U.S. history is unraveling, and some are looking for what went wrong when the state raided the Yearning For Zion Ranch and removed more than 400 children.

Sharon Rose, a Bell County delegate to the state Democratic convention, has a higher aspiration - she wants to be the final delegate from this state Senate district to the national convention. A newcomer to politics, she is excited about Sen. Barack Obama´s campaign for president. Come June 7, she´ll find out if she can cast a vote for him as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention.

Daniel Pinero-Espinoza jokingly admits that he will be the “appetizer” to Rachel Petersen´s “entrée” during their speeches at the Temple High School graduation ceremony on Saturday. Miss Petersen was recently named the school´s 2008 valedictorian, while Espinoza was named salutatorian.

As is the case in most Temple Blue-White spring games, or any formal scrimmage for that matter, most of the cards are kept close to the vest. It was no different Saturday night at Wildcat Stadium, but many of the hands the Wildcats showed had their share of aces.

BRENHAM - Granger´s offense finally showed up. But it wasn´t enough to slow down the ninth-ranked Flatonia Bulldogs.

COLLEGE STATION - Kyle Colligan homered on the game´s second pitch and Texas A&M never looked back in a 22-4 rout of Houston in the NCAA Tournament´s College Station Regional on Saturday night. The Aggies (45-16) set a school record for an NCAA Tournament game with six home runs. A&M has scored 37 runs in two tournament games. It crushed Illinois-Chicago 15-1 in Friday´s opener.

BOSTON - Paul Pierce grew up in Los Angeles watching the Lakers play the Boston Celtics for NBA championships. Now he´s the captain of the Boston team that is back in the Finals for the first time since it lost to the Lakers in 1987.

NEW YORK - Like lightning out of nowhere, Jamaica´s Usain Bolt is now the world´s fastest man. Bolt, who doesn´t even consider the 100 meters his best race, set the world record Saturday night with a time of 9.72 seconds at the Reebok Grand Prix, .02 seconds faster than the old mark held by countryman Asafa Powell.
