“The TSA is the number one support group for the orchestra,” said Rick Thomssen, executive director of the TSO. “They are absolutely dedicated to making the symphony a success.”
Ms. Locke and her husband Neal were immediate fans of the TSO when they moved to Temple several years ago and became charter members of the alliance.
“When we heard the symphony for the first time we were so impressed by the quality of the musicians,” Ms. Locke said. “Then you add to that the marvelous conductor who has a way of communicating with the musicians that just brings out their best. We were hooked.”
Looking forward to Ms. Locke’s tenure as president, Symphony Conductor Tom Fairlie said the alliance is a “very important source (of funds) for us.”
“I’m real excited Mary is taking over. She is energetic and is going to do a great job,” Fairlie said.
Taste of the Town, the alliance’s biggest fundraiser, will take place Sept. 7. Preparations are already beginning.
“We bring together the finest restaurants with great music and entertainment,” Ms. Locke said. “We’ll also have wine and are adding a few special features.”
Ms. Locke would not share all the secrets for this year’s event, but she did reveal one detail that is sure to keep football fans happy.
“We’re going to have a big-screen TV and a beer garden,” Ms. Locke said. “That way anyone can come and not miss the Cowboys game.”
Along with getting ready for this year’s Taste of the Town, the new president plans to increase alliance membership and contributions from the community.
“We’re looking for people who enjoy music and camaraderie,” Ms. Locke said.
