The Aggies (45-16) set a school record for an NCAA Tournament game with six home runs. A&M has scored 37 runs in two tournament games. It crushed Illinois-Chicago 15-1 in Friday’s opener.
Darby Brown and Kevin Gonzalez each hit a two-run blast in the third inning, then A&M sent 17 batters to the plate during a 12-run seventh.
Colligan led the way with two homers, and Luke Anders and Brown each drove in four runs. A&M’s Barret Loux (6-2) allowed four hits and four runs and had five strikeouts in six innings.
The Aggies next will play the winner of today’s elimination game between Houston and Illinois-Chicago.
Illinois-Chicago 9, Dallas Baptist 5
COLLEGE STATION - Ty Rubio and Brett Schaefer drove in two apiece for Illinois-Chicago in a win that eliminated Dallas Baptist from the College Station Regional.
The teams set a tournament record for hit batters in a game with 11. The previous record was 10 set by Washington and Rice a decade ago.
Dallas Baptist (37-19) hit eight Flames batters, including seven by Patriots starter Victor Black. Flames reliever Peter Ifft (4-0) allowed four hits and a run in five innings.
HOUSTON REGIONAL
Texas 13, Sam Houston State 3
HOUSTON - Kyle Russell homered twice and drove in four runs to lead Texas to a rout that eliminated Sam Houston State in the Houston Regional.
Second-seeded Texas (38-21) must beat St. John’s in another elimination game today to stay alive in the tournament and advance to a game later today against top-seeded host Rice.
Jordan Danks and Russell belted back-to-back home runs in the first inning, helping stake Texas to a 3-0 lead.
The Longhorns secured the victory in a nine-run second, including Russell crushing a three-run homer. Preston Clark added a two-run single and Michael Torres had a two-run triple as Texas took a 12-0 lead.
The Longhorns had 14 batters in the inning, collecting seven hits and two walks.
The Bearkats scored runs in the third, sixth and ninth.
Texas starter Chance Ruffin (8-3) scattered seven hits in six innings, allowing one run and striking out 10. Ryan Tepera (3-3) suffered the loss for Sam Houston State (37-25).
STILLWATER REGIONAL
Texas Christian 10, Western Kentucky 5
STILLWATER, Okla. - Bryan Holaday hit the go-ahead two-run double in a five-run seventh inning as Texas Christian knocked Western Kentucky out of the NCAA Tournament in the Stillwater Regional.
The Horned Frogs will play an elimination game today against host Oklahoma State, which lost to Wichita State.
A balk by reliever Bryce Jenney brought in another run, and Bryan Kervin added a two-run single to give the third-seeded Horned Frogs (44-18) a five-run lead.
Western Kentucky (33-27) got off to a strong start after Sean Hoelscher walked the first three batters he faced and then gave up a grand slam to Chad Cregar.
Trent Appleby took over with no outs and gave up one run in 6 2/3 innings of relief, and Andrew Cashner (9-3) earned the win after getting the last out in the seventh.
Chris Ellington had four hits, including an RBI single as the Frogs scored twice in the first to start their comeback. Matt Vern’s three-run homer in the third gave TCU a 5-4 lead.
Matt Hightower tied the game with a solo homer in the seventh for Western Kentucky. Colby Beach (3-4) gave up two runs in 3 2/3 innings of relief for the fourth-seeded Hilltoppers.
