Telegram: What do you consider the top improvements made at TISD under your watch?
Dr. Marable: The district has regained a “team atmosphere” and the teachers and staff are more committed to continuous improvement in all areas. The focus is truly on student achievement.
Telegram: What do you feel are areas where the district could improve?
Dr. Marable: The main goal must always be in the area of student achievement. Our mission is to be responsible in finding a way to educate all students. I believe Dr. Battershell will lead this district toward excellence in all areas.
Telegram: Do you have any suggestions in facing those issues?
Dr. Marable: Leadership is not a singular task. It will take everyone in the district along with the support of the community to establish a true Community of Learners in TISD. We must work together!
Telegram: What will you miss the most about your tenure at TISD?
Dr. Marable: I will miss the students, teachers and staff. Working with this fine group of individuals has been a wonderful gift, and I shall treasure all that I have experienced with them.
Telegram: What do you consider the most interesting aspect of the job and do you have any advice for your successor?
Dr. Marable: Working with children and being involved in the learning process is the best job in the world. Though my title has been interim superintendent, I continue to think of myself as a teacher and feel it is the most valued professional title one could hold. My advice to Dr. Battershell is to enjoy her position, to love her students and to value this tremendous team.
