Salado wins state

ROUND ROCK -- The Salado Eagles jumped out to a big lead early and went on to beat Corsicana Mildred, 12-8, Thursday to win the Class 2A state baseball championship.

The Eagles, 32-6, scored 23 runs in their two state tournament games to win Salado's first state baseball title.

Sam VanHoozer (10-3) was the winning pitcher for third-ranked Salado a day after teammate Kevin Jackson no-hit San Angelo Grape Creek over 5 innings for an 11-0 victory.
