CAMERON — Services for Cecil Denson Laywell, 83, of Cameron will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron with the Rev. Chris Norton and Rev. Gary Maroney officiating.
Burial will follow in Walkers Creek Cemetery near Cameron.
Mr. Laywell died Friday, June 6, in a Temple hospital.
He was born Dec. 30, 1924, to Henry J. and Bertha Angell Laywell in the Splawn Community of Milam County. He graduated from Cameron Yoe High School and was inducted into the Army following graduation. He served in Normandy and Germany. Upon returning, he attended the D.P.S. Academy and graduated with the 12th class in 1948. He was stationed as a patrolman in Fort Worth and the Katy area. He spent several years as an investigator for the Village Police Dept. in Spring Branch. He retired after 26 years, as drillings superintendent from Layne Western Co. in Houston. He served one term as Milam County Pct. No. 2 commissioner. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, a Shriner and of the First Presbyterian Church in Cameron. On Oct. 17, 1953, he married Elaine Werner in Brookshire and settled in Katy and in 1980, moved to the Walkers Creek Community of Milam County.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years of Cameron; a son, Hank Laywell of Hillsboro; two brothers, Ed Laywell of Cameron and Cliff Laywell of Bryan; and a granddaughter.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
