Deal reached by Stillwell, Rogers ISD

Finally, it’s official.

Following a month of speculation and several executive sessions of the school board, John Stillwell resigned Mon-day night as head football coach and athletic director at Rogers.

The resignation, which came as little surprise after Rogers ISD posted openings for Stillwell’s jobs last week, was announced by superintendent Katie Ryan following Monday’s monthly school board meeting.

“John Stillwell resigned his employment with Rogers ISD,” Ryan said. “The effective date of his resignation will be at the end of his 2007-08 contract period (June 30, 2008).”

Stillwell’s attorney, Tiger Hanner, said last week that the coach and Rogers ISD were working to come up with a mutual resolution.

According to Ryan, just such an agreement was reached Monday night.

“The terms and conditions were agreed upon by John Stillwell and the Rogers ISD board of trustees,” Ryan said. “Final requisites will be reviewed by both parties’ attorney and then verified by the Texas Teacher Retirement System.”

Stillwell spent five years as Rogers’ defensive coordinator before succeeding Lee Fedora in 2003. He compiled a 42-18 record and guided the Eagles to three playoff appearances that included a Class 2A Division II semifinal berth in 2003 and a spot in the 2A Region IV final in 2004.

“I think that this is mutual progress by both parties,” Ryan said. “We are now in the process of accepting applications for a new head football coach and district athletic director. It is the district’s goal to complete the interview and hiring process in the very near future.”
