SALADO — Memorial services for Richard “Skip” Lloyd Hatter, 81, of Salado will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Broecker Funeral Home of Salado.
Mr. Hatter died Monday, June 16, in a Temple nursing home.
He was born July 17, 1926, to Lloyd and Hattie Evelyn Rutherford Hatter in Moody. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, retiring in 1968. His services at sea were served in the Atlantic on the USS Charger and the USS Hancock; and in the Pacific on the USS Shangri La. His combat tours were: World War II Pacific War Zone; 3 tours in the Korean War Zone during the Korean Conflict; and 2 tours in Vietnam Conflict in the Vietnam War Zone. He flew a Bell, Hiller and Sikorsky Helicopter. In two combat tours in Vietnam he was the helicopter gunship pilot. He flew 193 combat missions with 507 combat flight hours. He was decorated 34 times, including the Bronze Star. Upon retiring, he worked for Bell Helicopter International as Registrar of the Iranian technical training center for pilots and maintenance personnel in Isfahan, Iran.
Survivors include his wife Barbara of Salado; three sons, Paul Thomas, Richard Michael and Lloyd Lee; three daughters, Janice Lynn, Susan Lee and Karen Anne; and 12 grandchildren.
