Loop traffic to detour at railroad overpass

The Texas Department of Transportation will temporarily close portions of Loop 363 at its intersection with Union Pacific railroad overpass at U.S. Highway 190 in Temple from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday and from 7 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday.

The temporary closures will allow construction crews to install bridge beams for the new railroad bridge at that location.

The Wednesday night detour will close the eastbound lanes of Loop 363 and Spur 290 at the eastbound railroad overpass and detour eastbound traffic along westbound U.S. 190/Texas 36 and under the railroad bridge over the westbound lanes at that location. Both east and westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane at the bridge site.

The Thursday night detour will close the westbound lanes of Loop 363 and reverse the traffic flow of Spur 290 to accommodate the single-lane restricted traffic flow to First Street and the Loop.

The $7.6 million project will result in replacement of the existing two-bridge crossing with a single, higher and wider structure that meets current roadway safety and design specifications, according to the department.

The project, being done by Austin Bridge and Road, is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2009.
