Warrant issued for former firefighter

LITTLE RIVER-ACADEMY - A former volunteer firefighter and youth baseball coach here is on the lam after a warrant was issued for his arrest alleging he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old boy, according to officials in the Bell County Sheriff’s Office.

William Jacobson, 31, and his wife fled the area on June 21 and may be in the Houston-Galveston area, officials said.

The sheriff’s office began investigating Jacobson on June 10 when they were called to Scott & White Memorial Hospital after the boy made an outcry. During the investigation, a sheriff investigator uncovered at least one other victim, according to sheriff officials.

A press release from the sheriff’s office said Jacobson was relieved of his duties as coach and firefighter as a result of the investigation.

However, Little River-Academy Fire Chief Jason Barton said nobody from the sheriff’s office contacted him. He said it wasn’t really necessary either because Jacobson had his membership in the department revoked earlier this year on an unrelated issue, which he said was an internal matter.

“I find it shocking that anybody would do this,” Barton said. “I’m just glad that he’s not a member of this department anymore.”

Barton said the department did a background check on Jacobson before accepting him as a volunteer and the check came back clean.

“We had no reason not to accept him,” he said.

Jacobson was with the department for several months before he was dismissed.

The case was screened by the Bell County District Attorney Office on Wednesday.

When officials find Jacobson, he will face charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony that carries a punishment of five years to life in prison, according to the press release.

Sheriff officials are still investigating this case in an attempt to reach other potential victims. Anyone with information about Jacobson’s location may contact the sheriff’s office at 254-933-5435.
