James T. Smith

Services for James Troy Smith, 102, of Temple will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Shackelford Funeral Home in Selmer, Tenn., with the Rev. David Comperry and the Rev. David Brasher officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Hills Cemetery in Selmer, Tenn.

Mr. Smith died Saturday, June 21, in Temple.

He was born May 18, 1906, in Sulfur Springs, Tenn. to John Henry and Katie Smith.

He graduated from Selmer High School in 1925. He married Martha Frances Abernathy June 14, 1930. She preceded him in death. He worked at the Selmer Bank and Trust and retired as chairman of the board. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Selmer, Tenn.,.where he served as chairman of the board of stewards, the finance committee and served as the superintendent of the Sunday School. He served as a delegate to the Memphis Conference of the Methodist Church. He was chairman of the McNairy County General Hospital Board, and served on the board of Selmer Utility District, the Boy Scout Council, the March of Dimes and the Pickwick Electric Board. He was a member of the Lions Club. He was a Master Mason and a member of the Al Chymia Temple Shrine Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Martha Jane Smith Brasher of Temple, and Nancy Frances Smith Darrow of San Antonio; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Selmer, Tenn., 38375.

Arrangements are being handled by Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Temple.
