ROCKDALE — Services for Weldon Alford, 79, of Rockdale will be 2 p.m. Monday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with the Rev. Jack Chelf officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale.
Mr. Alford died Thursday, July 3, at his home.
He was born July 4, 1928, to Thomas Ewing and Carolina Rose Alford in Rockdale. He married Jean McQuinn in Rockdale on June 12, 1948. He worked as a safety and security supervisor for IGC/ Texas Utilities in Rockdale, retiring in 1987 after 34 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockdale, a member of the Rockdale Sports Hall of Fame and a life member of the ASA and TASO. He was a softball and baseball umpire for 60 years, calling games at many levels including the SWC and NCAA.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years of Rockdale; a son, Kenny Alford of Portland; three daughters, Debbie Kaderka of Houston, Donna Smith of Hilltop Lakes and Patti Morgan of Milano; a sister, June Fenn of Livingston; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5:30-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
