Beginning today, and running through Monday, the public will be able to meet and hear the candidates during public forums at the TC Pavilion, beginning at 2:30 p.m. The finalists will visit campus in the following order:
Today: Dr. Dennis Brown, vice president of instruction/chief academic officer, El Paso Community College, El Paso.
Wednesday: Dr. Kathy Matlock, president, Southeastern Community College, Whiteville, N.C.
Thursday: Dr. Johnny Moore, vice president for student affairs, Indian River College, Fort Pierce, Fla.
Friday: Dr. Glenda Barron, assistant commissioner, The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Austin.
Monday: Dr. James Martin, vice president for student affairs, Pensacola Junior College, Pensacola, Fla.
Before their introduction to the public, each candidate will spend a day on campus meeting with a screening committee, faculty, administration workers and the board of trustees.
A Presidential Search Screening Committee, consisting of six TC employees and five community members, worked together to name the finalists.
The college received 47 applications and nominations, which was narrowed down to 25 applications over a two-week period, during which the screening committee looked at each candidate’s credentials.
TC board members don’t necessarily have to choose from the list of finalists, but board chair Jack W. Jones Jr. has said he could not foresee a reason why they wouldn’t. Jones has said he hoped area residents who had questions for the candidates would show up during the scheduled forums, saying the board would like “the public’s input to make a selection.”
