Hubert B. “Chubby” Under-wood, 86, of Temple died Saturday, July 12, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple with the Rev. Johnny Miller officiating.

Burial with military honors will be 2 p.m. Monday in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.

He was born April 24, 1922, to Hubert S. and Mary Ruth Walker Underwood in Rogers. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1939 and Draughan’s Business College in Dallas in 1941. He attended Norwich University in Vermont and City College of New York. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Philippines and Okinawa. He married Alma Laverne Weeks at the McCloskey Chapel on Oct. 27, 1949. He retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple after 37 years of service. He was a member of Oak Park United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Elk’s Lodge, American Legion and 32nd Degree Team in Karem Shrine. He coached Little League.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years of Temple; two sons, Gary Stacy Underwood and Jon Hugh Underwood, both of Temple; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. today at funeral home.
