Services for Hugh Von Meshack, 67, of Temple will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Temple with Dr. Charles E. Maze officiating.
He died Tuesday, July 8, in a Galveston hospital.
He was born Oct. 14, 1940, to Fred Douglas Meshack Sr. and Ethel Bell Meshack. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Temple. He graduated from Dunbar High School in 1959, where he was in the band. He attended Temple Junior College. In 1961, he was drafted by the U.S. Army and served most of his duty in the Washington, D.C., area, where he played in the Army Band. He was honorably discharged in 1964. He married Geneva Tucker in 1962. He owned and operated the Green Leaf Café and later operated Meshack’s Grocery.
Survivors include a son, Terrance Hodges of Temple; a daughter, Kimberly Burse of Fort Polk, La.; a stepson, Franc Nevoy McCauley of Temple; four stepdaughters, Curlette “CC” Williams of Dallas, Trena Jones and Treva Hodges, both of Temple, and Terry People of Lancaster; two sisters, Beverly Burrell of Belton and Wanda Smith of Dallas; a foster brother, Herman Harding of Denver; and several grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Tuesday at Branford/Dawson Funeral Home in Temple.
A wake will be 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
