2008 TEMPLE CRIME STATS JANUARY-JUNE

Burglary of a vehicle incidents spiked in May with 91; June recorded 74. Vehicle burglaries seem to happen in sprees rather than the odd car broken into, Smith said.

Criminal mischief numbers were 58 in April, they dropped to 33 in May and crept up again to 57 in June. In July 2007, there were 80.

Traffic accidents for the month of June showed an increase, spiking at 4 p.m. with about 21. Fridays in June averaged 10 accidents followed by 8 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

There were 4 car-related fatalities in the first six months of 2008, with another being added to July - a total of 5 for this year so far. For the past two years there were 3 each year.

Police response times decreased in June with Priority One calls taking 7 minutes, 22 seconds in the Central District and 7 minutes, 46 seconds in the West District. City is divided into these two districts.

May and October were the most popular months for car thefts: 16 each. There were 10 in June.

June citations: 1,805 led to charges; 1,103 resulted in tickets.

Fatalities on the

roads: 4.

In June there were 499 arrests, 26 more than in May.

Major crimes from January to June 2008: homicide, 2; rape, 19; robbery, 46; aggravated assault, 58; burglary, 215; larceny, 927; car theft, 59.
