Fading storm may bring us light rain

It’s not quite time to reset automatic sprinklers to the once-a-week ritual soaking just yet. Anticipated rain for the area was about an inch over Tuesday and today. By 10 p.m. on Tuesday only sprinkles had been felt in Temple, leaving behind tiny puddles on uneven sidewalks, which disappeared as quickly as they appeared.

The rain came compliments of tropical storm Edouard, which came ashore on the Texas Gulf Coast near Sabine Pass, bringing with it heavy rain and strong winds along the coastline. But Texas was prepared, according to a press release from Gov. Rick Perry.

“Texas is grateful that this storm did not escalate to hurricane strength before making landfall on our shores,” Perry said. “Yet even small storms can create dangerous situations. Flooding continues to be a viable threat to the coastal area, and the state stands ready to deploy search and rescue assets in the event they are needed.”

Remnants of the tropical storm may be felt today with www.accuweather.com forecasting a light rain that should clear by this afternoon.

The gray skies were a pleasant change to the unrelenting blue skies and temperatures stayed under the 100 mark with Draughon-Miller Central Texas Airport recording 99 degrees Tuesday.

Edouard was downgraded from a tropical storm to a tropical depression on Tuesday, Andy Andersen, KCEN-TV chief meteorologist said.

Sunny blue skies and dry days will return on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Andersen forecasts 93 degrees for today before the mercury starts to crawl back up to the mid-90s on Thursday to a forecast of 96 degrees and a continual escalation to the high 90s on Friday. Forecasts call for 100 degrees again on Sunday.
