Shots fired into crowd at reunion in Cameron

CAMERON - At least three people were injured during a shooting early Sunday in Cameron, after a party that culminated the annual O.J. Thomas school reunion, according to a press release by the Cameron Police Department.

The shooting occurred just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning at 8th street and Martin Luther King, when an unknown suspect fired into a crowd of people, according to Cameron police.

Three people and one Cameron police officer were injured. At least one person was transported by helicopter to Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple. The others were treated at Central Texas Hospital in Cameron. The officer only sustained a minor hand injury that was not related to the shots being fired.

Police are looking for help in identifying the shooter.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Milam County Crimestoppers at 888-697-TIPS, or Detective Kris Stringer with the Cameron Police Department.

There were four other arrests during the early morning hours following the shooting for unrelated offenses, including, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, minor in possession of alcohol and carrying a prohibited weapon.

Investigators could not be reached for comment Sunday.
