Services for Thomas “Tom” Popelka Jr., 89, of Temple will be 10 a.m. Monday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple with the Rev. Tom Popelka III and Rev. Denton Popelka officiating.
Burial will follow in Seaton Cemetery.
Mr. Popelka died Thursday, Aug. 14, in a Temple hospital.
He was born April 7, 1919, to Thomas Popelka Sr. and Frances Stanek Popelka in Cyclone. He married Alice Ruth Estill on Aug. 15, 1939. He attended school at Little Flock, Bentley Hill Elementary School and Central Junior High School. He worked for Bluebonnet Produce before starting his own paperhanging and paint contracting business. He later started a furniture refinishing business. He was a member of Temple Brethren Church. He was preceded in death by his wife.
Survivors include three sons, the Rev. Thomas Popelka III and Billy Popelka, both of Temple and Robert Popelka of Flower Mound; three daughters, Norma Mares of Belton, Frances Urbanovsky of Houston and Cynthia Messer of Coppell; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
