GATESVILLE — Services for Don Bates, 59, of Eddy, formerly of Gatesville, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Gatesville Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Hill officiating.

Burial will follow in King Cemetery.

Mr. Bates died Thursday, Aug. 21, in an Arkansas hospital.

He was born Nov. 22, 1948, to Joe and Anne Faubion Bates in Gatesville. He returned to Texas in 1978, after serving 10 years in the U.S. Navy. His tours of duty included Vietnam, Taiwan and Pearl Harbor. He married Chueng-Wo “Sunny” Bates. He graduated from Baylor University in Waco with a degree in accounting.

He was a retired certified public accountant. He served on the school board of Bruceville-Eddy ISD for more than 15 years.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years of Eddy; three daughters, Mistina Picciano of Denville, N.J., Tiffany Bates-Hendry of Little Rock and Ashley Vann of Fort Smith, Ark.; a sister, Jo-Anne Akers of Buena Vista, Va.; his father of Licking, Mo.; his mother, Anne Rose of Temple; and two granddaughters.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
