“We’ve got all the golfing slots filled,” said Donnie Lucas, event coordinator.
But it’s not too late to support the beneficiary of this year’s tournament - the Ralph Wilson Youth Clubs. People interested in helping the organization can either donate money to it directly or participate in the tournament’s luncheon, set for 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at the Wildflower Country Club in Temple. Luncheon tickets will be $15 per person; the menu will feature a salad bar and deli buffet.
Luncheon attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the auction and raffle.
Up for auction will be a week’s stay at a three-bedroom vacation home in Hilton Head, S.C. Jim and Jan Lundbeck of Temple are the donors.
Raffle items include a 50-inch plasma HD TV from Ted Kemp at Audio Tech and a $1,620 original handmade woman’s necklace from Charlie Wharton at Starfire Designs. Raffle tickets will cost $20 each or three for $50.
“Our goal is to raise $75,000 for the youth club,” Lucas said.
That figure is up from last year’s goal of $70,000. Changing charities each year, the Classic beneficiary in 2007 was the Families in Crisis Temple shelter for victims of domestic abuse.
The Dec. 2007 death of Dr. Ralph Wilson Jr. prompted the decision to make the Ralph Wilson Youth Clubs the permanent recipient of all future Wildflower Charity Classic golf tournaments.
