“We started slow, but we really took control in the third and fourth games,” first-year Belton coach Justeen Patton said. “We started gaining confidence and everything started to come together.”
San Miguel finished with 31 assists and 15 digs from the setter position, Weaver had a team-high 14 kills, senior Becca Owen had nine kills and 10 digs, senior Tilatha Akins had 11 digs and junior Hailey Rosebrock added 12 digs.
The Lady Tigers (7-6) overcame Gatesville’s scrappy play and dominated in the final two games with the reserves finishing out the fourth game.
“Grace took leadership tonight at times when the team was down and that's awesome to see out of a sophomore,” Patton said. “Myca led the team in digs and that’s really impressive from the setter position and Hailey did an outstanding job as well defensively.”
Belton plays at the San Marcos Tournament beginning on Thursday.
