COPPERAS COVE — Services for Homer Sherrill, 77, of Copperas Cove will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with full military honors.
Mr. Sherrill died Thursday, Aug. 21, in Copperas Cove.
He was born Dec. 5, 1930, in Decatur, Ala., to Joseph Esmond and Gussie B. Justice Sherrill.
He retired from the U.S. Army as a sergeant major after more than 26 years of service. He served during Korea and Vietnam. His military awards include: Good Conduct Medal; Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster); Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam); National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars; United States Service Medal; Republic of Korea; Presidential Unit Citation; Combat Infantry Badge; Vietnam Combat Medal with Bronze Service Star; Bronze Star Medal; M Unit Citation; Meritorious Service Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster); Overseas Service Bars (3). Having lived in this area since 1971, he was well known for Sherrill’s Horse World of Killeen. For many years, he was a Ferrier; president of Riding and Roping Club and a member of the PRCA Rodeo as well as the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice Missliltz Sherrill, on Oct. 20, 2004.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Sherrill of Copperas Cove; four sons, Thomas Sherrill and Billy Sherrill, both of Killeen; Bobby Sherrill of Copperas Cove, and Gene Williams of Copperas Cove; four daughters, Patricia Cote of Waco, Linda Kleindienst of Killeen, Sheila Watkins and Leslie Williams, both of Copperas Cove; three brothers, Harvey Sherman of Oregon, Jimmy Sherman and Mike Sherman, both of Dallas; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
