KILLEEN — Services for Lt. Col. James Smejkal (Ret), 89, of Killeen will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen with Chaplain Ralph McCulloh officiating.
Burial will follow in Killeen Memorial Park with full military honors.
Mr. Smejkal died Tuesday, Aug. 26, in Killeen.
He was born Oct. 21, 1918, to Anton and Annie Janota Smejkal in Victoria. He was raised and educated in Victoria. He married Rosemarie Smejkal. He later married Lois Smith Smejkal. He joined the U.S. Army and retired in Killeen, after more than 20 years of service. His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal; American Defense Medal; American Campaign Medal; World War II Victory Medal; and National Defense Service Medal.
He later worked for Woolworth and Gibson department stores. He was a member of the Bob Gilmore Senior Center and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his first wife in 1991; and a grandson in 2005.
Survivors include his wife of Killeen; two sons, Jimmy E. Smejkal of Alamogordo, N.M., and Rod Smith of Killeen; two daughters, Debra Windham Yznaga and Georgia Smejkal, both of Killeen; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
