Claire M. Cunningham

COPPERAS COVE — Claire Maurine Hart Cunningham, 87, of Copperas Cove died Thursday, Aug. 28.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Copperas Cove with Dr. Mark Kemp officiating.

Burial will follow in Copperas Cove City Cemetery.

Mrs. Cunningham was born June 30, 1921, in Sioux City, Iowa. She was valedictorian of her graduating class in Gillett Grove, Iowa. On Dec. 18, 1942, she married Mel Cunningham at Camp Barkley, near Abilene. After traveling with the U.S. Army, she was called into service at First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove, serving as Sunday schoolteacher, church hostess, choir member, working with the college-age youth, the elderly and the homebound. She was preceded in death by her husband and a grandson.

Survivors include a son, Michael Cunningham of Spokane, Wash.; two daughters, Shari Rogers of Georgetown and Joan Manning of Copperas Cove; a brother, Thomas Hughes Hart of Milford, Iowa; a sister, Georgia Raun of Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove, HOPE Pregnancy Center in Copperas Cove or to the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
