Flores connected with Shawn Bell on an 8-yard strike in the first quarter to stake the Cougars to a 7-0 lead, then hit Deandre Thompson with a 19-yard scoring pass in the second to take a 13-0 lead into the intermission.
Flores found Ben Guthrie from the 22 in the third quarter to put the Cougars up 20-0, and Thompson capped the scoring with a 1-yard run in the fourth for the 27-0 final score.
Flores finished with 147 yards on 11 completions.
The R-L defense, coordinated by former Rogers coach John Stillwell, permitted just 40 rushing yards and limited McGregor to 19 passing yards on 5-of-21 accuracy.
Fort Worth Hill 52, Holy Trinity Catholic 6
Fort Worth Hill posted a victory over Holy Trinity Catholic in an abbreviated six-man season opener at Gandy Field in the Celtics' first football game since 2005.
The game was halted in the third quarter because of the six-man mercy rule.
The Celtics started well as Andrew Couvillon ran the opening kickoff back 68 yards for a 6-0 lead.
But the remainder of the game was all Hawks, who reeled off 40 first-half points and added 12 in the third quarter before the game was called.
Moody 19, Thrall 15
MOODY - Nate Wilburn threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Ricky Siler with 17 seconds left as the Moody Bearcats defeated Thrall in the season opener for both teams at Bearcat Stadium.
Justin Smith’s 30-yard touchdown reception from Wilburn gave the Bearcats a 12-8 first-quarter lead.
Thrall’s Kerry Johle had a 30-yard touchdown reception of his own to give the Tigers a 15-12 lead in the third before Moody rallied.
The Bearcats’ Walter Hammond finished 118 yards on 25 carries. The Tigers’ Hayden Cassey finished with 95 yards on 11 carries.
Rockdale 39, Llano 33
ROCKDALE - The Rockdale Tigers came out of the gate on the prowl with a quick touchdown by Cois Walker for 63 yards on their home turf Friday night at Tiger Field.
Trey Brooks of Llano scored to pull within 7-6 but Mark Drake’s 39-yard run and Joe Sanders' 2-yard catch from Drake gave the Tigers a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Estevan Aviles scored on a 35-yard run for Llano in the fourth but Rockdale held on for the win.
Granger 40, Johnson City LBJ 27
GRANGER - Normally known as an outstanding rusher, Bradley Sims had a monster receiving game as Granger defeated Johnson City LBJ for the third time in three seasons.
The Lions have defeated the Eagles in the playoffs the last two seasons, including a 46-7 rout last year.
Sims had just three catches but racked up 130 yards and scored twice. Quarterback Kenny Sifuentes threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more to lead Granger.
Copperas Cove 56, San Angelo Central 0
SAN ANGELO - After reaching the last two Class 4A Division I state title games, the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs throttled the San Angelo Central Bobcats in their season opener at San Angelo Stadium.
Brandin Byrd ran for 109 yards and scored three touchdowns and the defense returned two interceptions for touchdowns for the Bulldawgs.
Cove’s defense allowed just 41 rushing yards on 32 carries and gave up only five first downs.
Milano 27, Texas Christian 0
MILANO - Matthew Jentsch scored four rushing touchdowns in his first career start and coach Tim Berg won his coaching debut as the Milano Eagles ran away with their season opener against the Waco Texas Christian Stars at Pruitt Field.
Coming off their first 11-man playoff victory in school history last season, the Eagles allowed only 13 yards and two first downs.
Manor 20, Lampasas 13
MANOR - Lampasas let a fourth-quarter lead slip away, and Manor scored the game-winning touchdown with a minute to go as the Mustangs escaped with a win over the Badgers.
Ed Grant’s 7-yard scoring run and Aaron Reyna’s 20-yard touchdown jaunt staked Lampasas to a 13-7 lead before Manor’s fourth-quarter heroics.
Grant’s 91 yards paced the Badgers’ offense which managed only 56 yards through the air.
Austin St. Andrew’s 27, Bartlett 7
AUSTIN - Walter Wrow threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Austin St. Andrew’s to a season-opening victory over Bartlett.
Wrow, who completed 11 of 16 passes for 148 yards, completed a 7-yard pass to Andrew Brown in the first quarter and a 29-yarder to Grant Wilson in the second for two of his team’s four scores.
The Bulldogs contributed to their own demise by losing four of five fumbles and having two passes picked off.
Florence 32, Bruceville-Eddy 15
BRUCEVILLE-EDDY - The Florence Buffaloes scored 32 straight points to take a season-opening victory over Bruceville-Eddy at Eagle Stadium.
The Eagles took an early 7-0 lead when Sheldon Walker threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Logan Pratt. The Buffaloes came back with Blake Brimer’s 50-yard scoring strike to Emilio Ramirez and Brimer’s 2-yard keeper gave Florence a 12-7 lead at the half.
Ben Katzenmeyer extended the lead to 19-7 in the third quarter on a 12-yard run and Gilber Ledesma broke free on a 67-yard scoring jaunt to raise the margin to 26-7.
Penelope 50, Central Texas Christian 0
PENELOPE - Keith Williams scored touchdowns on runs of 4, 4, 17 and 6 yards to lead Penelope to a victory over Central Texas Christian in a six-man season opener at Wolverine Field.
The Lions managed just 133 total yards in a game that was 32-0 at the half and 44-0 after three periods.
Three projected CTCS starters didn’t play because of preseason injuries.
Austin 33, Harker Heights 23
KILLEEN - Weather delayed the start of the season for the Harker Heights Knights. A 320-yard passing performance from Austin quarterback Jacob Morgan delayed the Knights’ chance for a season-opening win as the Maroons rolled at Leo Buckley Stadium.
Morgan threw three touchdown passes to Emory Blake as Austin took a 13-7 lead into the half and held off a late charge from Heights.
Crawford 20, Jarrell 3
CRAWFORD - The Crawford Pirates handed Jarrell’s Ricky Taylor a loss in his coaching debut. The Cougars host Thorndale next week.
