In recent decades, Texas’ hot climate has become attractive to entrepreneurs for wine production.
That’s why this year’s Taste of the Town will feature Texas wines in Wendland Hall at the Cultural Activities Center. Fine wines from other continents will be offered in Howard Gallery and Strasburger Hall.
“Taste of the Town” benefits the Temple Symphony Alliance and the Temple Symphony Orchestra. The corks will pop 4-7 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Azalee Marshall Cultural Activities Center, 3011 N. Third.
Tickets are $35 presale and $40 at the door. Tickets are available at Cultural Activities Center, Von Music, Johnnie’s Cleaners, Compass Bank Belton and Salado Civic Center.
It’s a win-win for everyone. The Alliance raises funds to keep classical music alive and well in Central Texas, and guests may wander freely throughout the CAC to sip and nibble. Dotted throughout will be samples and nibbles from local restaurants.
New this year will be a beergarten, also in Wendland Hall, with tastings from BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse. A large-screen TV will show the Cowboys games - so Taste will have something for everyone.
Also new this year will be a “bottle” auction, a silent auction featuring five different leisure and arts packages.
Donations are pouring in. According the Taste chairman Cynthia Lee, the bidding is expected to be vigorous for more than a dozen fashion and restaurant gift certificates and event tickets.
While guests mingle and munch, live music will play. Among the ensembles will be Jazz Works, Damian Green Band, Sheryl Goodnight and Pam Bland, Temple College Faculty Duo, Chisholm Brass, Ritmo & Mas Percussion Group, James Flowers Quartet, Elision Saxophone Quartet, John and Mary Evelyn Pinno.
“Taste” is TSO’s largest fund-raiser of the year. TSO is supported by corporate sponsors, grants, fund drives, patrons, fundraising activities, program advertising, season memberships and ticket sales.
