Margie Prentice hugs her son Mark as he prepares to toss his father’s fishing pole into Stillhouse Hollow Lake on Wednesday during a flotilla in honor of Stillhouse Hollow Marina owner Howard Clapper, who died Aug. 30. Mark’s father, Max Prentice, who died July 2, was a close friend of Clapper. “Howard was the kind of guy that would put himself on the schedule just so he could remember how to run the cash register. He was only a few months older than me and we both were going through similar health issues at the same time. I spent many nights out here talking with him and he kept me going. He was a great friend,” Prentice said. Margie Prentice knew Clapper since the day he bought the marina nine years ago. “He would throw Christmas parites, Halloween parties, Fourth of July parties and fish fries,” she said. “Everyone was invited. You didn’t even need to own a boat. It was a great place to be. We were all one big ol’ family.” (Scott Gaulin/Telegram)
