Texas delegation mingles with newsmakers at GOP convention

The Texas delegation at the Republican convention is having a “great time,” said Dave Palmer, a delegate from Belton.

“It’s very evident on the floor,” he said.

On Wednesday night, the Texas delegation - led by Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst - put U.S. Sen. John McCain’s name in for nomination.

“Late at night after the roll call of the states, he was elected as the Republican nominee,” Palmer said on Thursday. “It was a foregone conclusion.”

Delegates have run into people in the media, celebrities, national politicians and Texas political leaders, he said.

“They’re all here and in and about. You never know, you turn a corner and you see someone whose face is recognizable from being on television all the time,” Palmer said. “My wife and I got in the elevator yesterday to go to the convention and rode down with Bill O’Reilly. You see people at every turn.”
