AUSTIN (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry is suspending for 14 days the collection of state and local hotel and motel taxes for victims of Hurricane Ike.

Perry announced the suspension of the taxes Thursday night.

The move came as nearly 1 million people along the Texas coast were ordered to evacuate ahead of the storm, which was expected to strike late today or early Saturday

He said the suspension is backdated to Sept. 8.
