COPPERAS COVE — Services for Henry Marshel Smothers Sr., 76, of Copperas Cove will be 2 p.m. Monday at Sheppard Funeral Home in Copperas Cove with Army Chaplain Michael Stephan officiating.
Burial will follow in Copperas Cove Cemetery with full military honors and Masonic rites.
Mr. Smothers died Thursday, Sept. 11, in a Copperas Cove nursing home.
He was born Feb. 2, 1932, to Charlie Sanford Smothers and Vernie Bell Williams Smothers in Decaturville, Tenn. He married Mary Elizabeth Ingold on Nov. 12, 1950, in New Martinsville, W.Va. He was retired civil service, where he worked as a forklift operator for DOL. He was a U.S. Army veteran with more than 20 years service, retiring as a sergeant first class. His military awards include the National Defense Service Medal, 1st Oak Leaf Cluster; Vietnam Service Medal; and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He was a 32nd degree Mason; a Shriner and past master of Mt. Horeb Lodge No. 137. He was a member of the Scottish Rite; York Rite; VFW; American Legion; Moose Lodge; and past member of Order of Eastern Star. He was preceded in death by his wife.
Survivors include two sons, Henry Marshel Smothers Jr. of Kempner and Scott Eugene Smothers of San Antonio; two daughters, Sandra Lynn Sagerian of Pasadena and Janie Marie Thompson of Fort Polk, La.; two brothers, James Dudley Smothers of Guthrie, Okla., and Joe Earl Smothers of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Mae L. Fortner of Dyersburg, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
