First Central Texas Outdoor Expo coming to Belton on Oct. 18

Hunting, fishing and other sports lovers are in for a treat Oct. 18 when the first Central Texas Outdoor Expo arrives at Bell County Expo Center in Belton.

The event will run from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tickets cost $5 for general admission and $2 for military members with proper identification. Children under age 10 will receive free admission.

Brian Doty, host of the cable television show “Extreme Outdoor Adventures,” will bring his menagerie of mounted animals from across the globe. After he unloads his 32-foot trailer, visitors will get to see a pronghorn antelope from South Dakota, an oryx from Africa, a buffalo and a small whitetail Mexican deer.

Doty said he is excited about holding seminars about bow hunting.

“I just love hunting, because I love outdoors, not having cell phones ringing or TVs blaring,” Doty said. “Bow hunting is more challenging because you are in their environment. You get to see how they react to other deer, how they hold their ears.”

For those who want to overcome their fear of snakes so they can enjoy the outdoors more often, a professional snake handler with a 260-square-foot rattlesnake pit will give demonstrations.

Other events set for the Outdoor Expo:

n A pro dog trainer with Sit Means Sit Dog Training will demonstrate training methods.

n The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will display its Operation Game Thief trailer.

n Texas Motor Speedway will have a show car on display, give away race tickets and have door prizes and interactive games.
