BARTLETT — Services for Irene Belle Pope Clement, 93, of Bartlett will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church of Bartlett.
Burial will follow in Bartlett Cemetery.
Mrs. Clement died Thursday, Sept. 18, in a local nursing home.
She was born Dec. 16, 1914, to Hattie “Blue Eyes” Tegge Pope and Grover Cleveland Pope in Granger. She attended Circleville School and graduated from Taylor High School in 1931. She worked her way through college by teaching school and piano; she attended the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and graduated from Southwestern University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Piano and Voice in 1941.
She began teaching in 1937, and taught at Granger for about 40 years. After moving to Bartlett, she became the choir director of the church, serving in that capacity for about 17 years. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist church, serving as the organist for both the First Methodist Church of Granger and the First Methodist Church of Bartlett for more than 40 years. She was a member Delta Kappa Gamma and Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years; three daughters, Beverly Clement of College Station, Marilyn Clement of College Station and Katherine Clement of Lake Jackson; two brothers, Jim Pope of Holland and Dick Pope of Granger; and three granddaughters.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Goodnight Funeral Home in Bartlett.
