NAVASOTA — Services for Joseph Philip Davis, 97, of Temple, formerly of Huntsville, will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Huntsville with the Rev. CarrolWilliams officiating.
Burial will follow in Red Top Cemetery in Shiro.
Mr. Davis died Monday, Sept. 22, in a Temple nursing home.
He was born on Dec. 19, 1910, to Bessie Sandel Davis and Grover Cleveland Davis in the community of Gladstone, west of Huntsville. He was a graduate of Huntsville High School and Sam Houston State Teachers College. He was an industrial arts teacher at Huntsville High School. He also worked for International Business Machines (IBM), and during World War II he was the customer-engineering manager of the Austin office. He married Florence “Flossie” McIntyre of Shiro in 1936. He was a long-time resident of Huntsville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years in 2002, and a grandson in 2006.
Survivors include a son, J. Philip Davis Jr. of Temple; two daughters, Patsy Freeman of Huntsville and Janet Stautz of Dallas; a sister, Dorothy Myrick of Dallas; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Temple Bible Church.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the church.
Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota is in charge of arrangements.
