Sounds crazy, but that would be a fairly accurate description of the Central Texas Kids Expo on Saturday.
Batman, Spiderman, Cinderella and Snow White roamed the Bell County Expo Center as anxious children waited to get free immunizations.
“It seemed like the perfect time to get this done,” said Joanna Stanley of Harker Heights.
Ms. Stanley was looking over her son, Donnie, as he shook Batman’s hand after receiving his shot.
Donnie said his shot wasn’t “so bad” because “I knew Batman was here and I really wanted to see him.”
Pretty fair deal according to Ms. Stanley.
The Texas American Girl Style Show featured local models and their favorite dolls with fashions from Bell County’s past and the latest in Texas styles. The historical fashions were presented with commentary by the Bell County Museum.
American Girl is a brand of dolls that come with tons of clothes and accessories for just about every situation.
“It was great to see all these young girls in their outfits,” said Barbara Holcomb of Waco.
“I really liked the ones that were more old-fashioned,” said Ms. Holcomb’s daughter Melanie about the style show.
The event was overflowing with booths from businesses and organizations in Bell County. People attending the expo saw the latest products, innovations and services in family health care, education, dance and gymnastics, safety and entertainment.
Saturday was also the Service Nation Day of Action by the group Be the Change Inc. The Kids Expo did its part by asking that guests bring a canned good to the event instead of paying the $5 admission fee. Last year, the expo collected 3,000 pounds of canned goods that were donated to Foods for Families.
“We have plenty of canned food sitting around,” said Ryan Mayes of Troy. “I brought all three of my kids and I think they were excited to be able to donate those cans.”
The family came to last year’s expo on a lark and Mayes said there was no way they would have missed this one.
“There is just so much stuff here all in one place,” Mayes said. “It makes it really easy to find the right activity for my kids.”
