Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Georgetown.
Mr. Flowers died Thursday in a local care facility.
He was born May 30, 1926, in Jones County to Carter Sr. and Gladys Day (Kirksey) Flowers. He married Louise Woodward Nov. 21, 1947, outside of Lamesa and she preceded him in death in 2006.
He retired April 30, 1987, from the Texas Highway Department (TxDOT) where he was a senior engineer technician and worked for 39 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-46, and was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received in Europe during World War II. He was ordained as a deacon Feb. 21, 1954, and served as Sunday School superintendent for 20 years at Bryan Street Baptist Church in Lamesa and two small churches in Lubbock.
Survivors include two daughters, Regina Ellington and Marilyn Strain; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made in J.C.’s name to Texas Baptist Children’s Home in Round Rock.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
