Mr. Calhoun died Sunday, Oct. 5, in a local nursing center.
He was born Oct. 31, 1921, to Howard and Lavinia Broaddus Calhoun. He attended Temple Schools and Temple Junior College. He joined the U.S. Navy for World War II and was recalled to serve in the Korean conflict. He was a printer for the Temple Daily Telegram a few years, and then traveled several states for many years as a clothing-manufacturing representative.
After his retirement in 1980, he worked as a part-time employee for Leon Valley Golf Course. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Boyd and a son, Joe Jr.
Survivors include a son, Charles Calhoun of Calif.; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.
