The Vikings (5-1, 1-1 in 25-2A) outscored the Bumblebees 19-7 in the second half to overcome a 22-15 halftime deficit, with Hull accounting for four touchdowns.
Academy (6-1, 2-1) found itself down 15-0 in the second quarter before scoring 22 points in the final 1:10 of the first half.
Chase Gommert scored on a 2-yard run. A quick turnover led to Gommert hitting Noah Hamill on a 27-yarder and Gommert throwing to Cody Sultenfuss on the two-point conversion.
The Bees got it back again and Gommert went in from the 1 with 12 seconds left. Gommert added a touchdown pass in the third on a 24-yard strike to Cameron Dutcher.
Salado 26, Lexington 10
LEXINGTON - The Salado Eagles muscled their way to a 3-0 league record with a 26-10 victory over Lexington. Salado (5-2) sits atop the District 25-2A standings at 3-0, with Rogers at 2-0. Lexington is 2-4, 1-2.
Jerod Lutz rushed for a pair of touchdowns and threw for one to pace the Eagles. Lutz scored on runs of 23 and 11 yards. He also hit Caleb Little with a 10-yard scoring strike in the first half.
Salado led 14-3 at halftime before Lexington closed the gap to 14-9 after a 2-yard plunge by Clinton Hutson.
But Lutz scored from the 11 in the third and Garret Ward took an interception back 23 yards in the fourth to seal it for Salado.
Franklin 35, Rosebud-Lott 14
FRANKLIN - The Rosebud-Lott Cougars saw their unblemished record marred in their district opener as Franklin scored in every quarter en route to a 35-14 victory in a District 20-2A game at Hedrick Field.
The Cougars (5-1, 0-1 in 20-2A) collected all of their points in the second quarter. Ernesto Flores hit Darrell Whitfield on a 5-yard touchdown pass. Flores rambled 29 yards for the other score to tie the game at 14 with 4:44 left in the first half. Franklin (2-3, 1-0) scored 28 straight points to put away the game.
Clifton 35, Moody 8
MOODY - Clifton churned out 333 yards and held Moody to 135 as the Cubs rolled to a 35-8 victory over the Bearcats.
The Cubs (2-4, 1-2 District 16-2A) held a 35-0 fourth-quarter lead before Walter Hammond’s 1-yard plunge and two-point conversion run got the Bearcats (1-5, 0-3) on the board.
Hico 34, Bruceville-Eddy 20
BRUCEVILLE-EDDY - The Bruceville-Eddy Eagles made a run at Hico but couldn’t overcome the Tigers in a 34-20 homecoming loss at Eagle Stadium.
Logan Pratt put the Eagles (1-5, 0-3 District 16-2A) on the board twice in the second quarter, scoring on a 54-yard jaunt and on a 70-yard pass from Sheldon Walker. Matt Gonzales added a late score for the Eagles on a 12-yard run before the Tigers (4-2, 2-1) clamped down to seal it.
Rockdale 49, Bryan Rudder 7
BRYAN - The Rockdale Tigers got off to a fast start and cruised to a 49-7 victory over Bryan Rudder in a District 24-3A game at Merrill Green Stadium.
The Tigers (6-1, 2-1 in 24-3A) exploded for 21 first-quarter points. Greg Chelf scored on runs of 6 and 8 yards, and Terrell Dickson broke loose on a 63-yarder.
Joe Sanders took in a 15-yard pass from Mark Drake shortly before halftime to put the Tigers up 28-0 at the break to help keep the Rangers (0-5, 0-2) winless.
Gatesville 43, Whitney 0
GATESVILLE - Kevin Clarke ran for 102 yards and Shane Clark passed for 146 to help Gatesville flatten Whitney 43-0 in a District 7-3A opener at McKamie Stadium.
The Fightin’ Hornets (4-2) rolled up 344 yards and held the Wildcats (0-6) to only 88. Ross Wallace had a pair of touchdown receptions - a 9-yarder from Clark and a 5-yarder from Jake Truss.
Granger 50, Milano 7
MILANO - Kenny Sifuentes and Jason Finn combined for five touchdown passes as the Granger Lions routed Milano 50-7 in a District 26-A opener at Pruitt Field.
Finn had a huge night, catching touchdown passes of 82 and 77 yards, taking an interception back 44 yards for a score and throwing three scoring passes. Finn hit three receivers for touchdowns - Chaston Kubacak from 15 yards, Christian Kerlin for 49 and Robbie Filla for 69 - to highlight the scoring. Between Finn and Sifuentes, the Lions (3-3) were 8-of-8 passing for 359 yards. They added 124 yards on the ground. Finn caught three passes for 175 yards.
Thomas Sanders provided the lone touchdown for the Eagles (4-2).
Thrall 10, Holland 6
HOLLAND - A 10-point third quarter and a late defensive stand were enough to give Thrall a narrow 10-6 victory over Holland at Hornet Field in a District 26-A opener.
Hayden Caffey broke loose on a 40-yard scoring jaunt and James Hernandez kicked a 20-yard field goal to give Thrall a 10-0 lead.
Holland answered when Clayton Ash hit Darius Moore on a 15-yard touchdown pass at the 3:00 mark of the third to make it 10-6.
The Hornets (2-4) came up a yard short on a fourth-down try inside the Thrall 15 to seal the win for the Tigers (2-4).
Bartlett 7, Thorndale 0
BARTLETT - Eric Walker hammered his way into the end zone midway through the second quarter and his touchdown held up to give Bartlett a 7-0 victory over Thorndale in a District 26-A opener.
Walker scored from the 6-yard line with 6:40 to go in the first half. It was set up by Gabriel Gadison’s 34-yard punt return. The Bulldogs (3-3) needed eight plays to go 41 yards for the game’s only touchdown.
Anthony Palomo added the extra point, and Thorndale (1-5) never threatened.
Fredericksburg Heritage 80, Central Texas Christian 52
Central Texas Christian got 251 rushing yards and three touchdowns from Jeremiah Bergert but couldn’t contain Fredericksburg Heritage (4-2) as the Lions lost an 80-52 six-man shootout with the Eagles at Frazee Field.
Bergert also tossed four touchdown passes - two to Brent Reynolds - to help CTCS (3-4) stay within striking distance most of the night.
Marble Falls Faith 48, Holy Trinity Catholic 0
MARBLE FALLS - Holy Trinity Catholic couldn’t get its offense on track, falling 48-0 to Marble Falls Faith in a non-district six-man game that ended in the third quarter on the 45-point mercy rule.
The Celtics (1-6) managed only 69 yards. The Flames (5-2) scored 28 first-quarter points and led 42-0 at halftime before closing it out with a touchdown in the third period.
Killeen 41, Marble Falls 35 (OT)
MARBLE FALLS - Michael Cummings scored four touchdowns, including the game-winner, as Killeen (4-3, 1-2 District 25-4A) came back from a 35-21 fourth-quarter deficit to post a 41-35 in overtime win over Marble Falls (3-3, 0-2).
