Mrs. Hitt died Friday, Oct. 24, in a Belton nursing home.
She was born March 12, 1915, to Samuel and Elizabeth Hollingsworth Whitley in Turnersville. She graduated from King’s Daughters Hospital Nursing School and worked as a practical nurse at Santa Fe. She also graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and received her master’s degree from Baylor University. She went on to teach Biology I, II and AP Biology at Belton High School for more than 32 years. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Tivis Hitt of Belton and Travis Hitt of Austin; two daughters, Sara Sue Hitt Solomon of Grand Prairie and Jane Hitt of Lucas; three brothers, Tivis Whitley of Gatesville, Troy Whitley of Waco and Hoyt Whitley of Florida; two sisters, Faye Howard of Florida and Patty June Courtney of Hamilton; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Crestview Manor Nursing Home.
