“We broke down on the little things,” Temple coach Susie Hughlett said. “We passed the ball really well in the first two games, but all of a sudden our passing broke down in the final two games.”
Senior Jordan Pickett had 13 kills, nine assists and 13 digs, Kaitlin Muniz had 20 digs, Lauren Mann had 27 and Ashley Schlieper had 16 assists.
The Tem-Cats played without senior Patti Kabobel, who broke her arm in Monday’s practice. They finished 20-23, 6-8 in District 12-5A for fifth.
“The kids worked hard all season,” Hughlett said. “I’m real proud of them, but disappointed it had to end on a sad note."
KILLEEN - In order to keep its hopes alive of finishing second in District 12-5A, Belton needed to beat Killeen Shoemaker and get some help from district champion College Station A&M Consolidated.
The Lady Tigers took care of business, rolling early before rallying to sweep the Lady Grey Wolves 25-15, 25-5, 25-21 on Tuesday night.
Consol swept Bryan and Copperas Cove beat Temple in four games, forcing a three-way tie between Belton, Bryan and Cove, who all finished 10-4 in district play, for second. Each team is guaranteed a playoff berth.
First-year Lady Tigers coach Justeen Patton, Bryan’s Caroline Simpson and Cove’s Cari Lowery will meet today to settle the tiebreaker possibilities.
Belton sophomore Grace Weaver served 12 aces with most of them coming in the second game. Senior Myca San Miguel had 19 assists and senior Becca Owen led the team with eight kills while junior Hailey Rosebrock added seven.
“It took a little while for us to get focused,” Patton said. “Grace had an awesome night serving. She was hitting the right spots with good velocity.”
Starting the third game on the bench, San Miguel and Owen returned to the lineup in time to rally the Lady Tigers past Shoemaker, giving Belton its 20th win of the season for the second straight year.
