Salado, Troy advance in volleyball playoffs; Gatesville falls short

ELGIN - The Salado Lady Eagles opened the Class 2A volleyball playoffs with a win Tuesday night.

No. 13-ranked Salado’s 24-26, 25-12, 25-14, 25-19 win in a bi-district match over No. 25 Weimar sent the Lady Eagles (33-5) into an area-round match with No. 12 Poth later this week.

Jenna Sebek led Salado with 14 kills and seven blocks, Danielle Hazzard had 13 kills, 21 digs and three aces and Kaitlyn Ruth recorded a team-high 45 assists. Lindsey Coffey had 16 digs and six aces.

Balanced Troy advances past Godley

HILLSBORO - Meg Maedgen and Vanessa Watkins blasted 10 kills apiece and Troy used a balanced effort to defeat Godley 25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 25-18 in a Class 2A bi-district volleyball match Tuesday night.

Coach Amber Guin’s Trojanettes (22-14) advanced to battle 19th-ranked Quitman in an area-round match at 7 p.m. Thursday in Ennis.

Also for Troy, Jenny Calhoun had 24 digs, Erica Cooper 20, Ryan Allen 19, Dizzy Oliver 18. Oliver posted 21 assists and Cat Hernandez 15. Watkins recorded nine blocks.

Burnet ousts No. 10 Gatesville

LAMPASAS - The 10th-ranked Gatesville Lady Fightin’ Hornets lost to Burnet 25-15, 25-23, 25-21 in a Class 3A bi-district volleyball match Tuesday night.

Gatesville finishes the season at 30-11.
