About a dozen area teams have either earned playoff berths or can earn a berth tonight.
In District 12-5A, College Station A&M Consolidated’s win over Killeen Ellison on Thurday night solidified three of the four postseason spots.
Consol, Temple and Copperas Cove are in. Killeen Shoe-maker clinches a berth with a win over Temple or a Belton win over Bryan. Ellison would advance with a Shoemaker loss and a Bryan victory.
Consol is 12-5A’s Division I top seed, and Cove is the top seed for Division II. If Shoemaker advances, Temple will be the second seed in Division I. If Ellison garners a berth, Temple would be the No. 2 seed in Division II.
In 25-2A, Rogers and Salado are battling for the district title tonight, but their game will have no influence on the postseason. Salado will be the Division I representative and Rogers will be the Division II top seed. Academy can claim the final spot with a win over Florence. If Academy loses, Lexington is in.
In 16-2A, Troy will be the Division 1 representative and McGregor will be a Division II team. Crawford will claim the other spot with a win over Moody or a Hamilton loss to Hico. Hamilton would take it with a win and a Crawford loss to Moody.
In 20-2A, Franklin and Teague are in the playoffs. The winner of today’s game between Rosebud-Lott and Hearne takes the other spot.
In 24-3A, Navasota has secured the district title and will be the Division I representative. Rockdale needs a win over Taylor or a Cameron Yoe victory over Caldwell to make the playoffs. Losses by Rockdale and Yoe would put Caldwell in as the Division II first seed and Yoe as the second.
The Yoemen can claim a playoff spot with a win or a loss of fewer than 13 points, or a Rockdale loss. If Caldwell wins by 13 or more then it gets the playoff spot over Yoe.
In 26-A, Bartlett and Thorndale have clinched playoff spots. Holland can earn its first playoff trip since 2001 with a win over Thorndale or a loss by both Granger and Thrall.
Granger can take the final spot with a win over Bartlett and a Holland. Even with a loss, Granger gets in if Thrall and Holland lose.
Elsewhere, things aren’t as complicated as those.
District 25-4A has been decided, with Austin Lake Travis and Killeen as the Division I representatives and Dripping Springs and Pflugerville Hendrickson in Division II.
In 7-3A, Gatesville hurt its playoffs chances with last week’s loss to West. The Fightin’ Hornets can still join China Spring and Glen Rose in the postseason if they defeat China Spring tonight and West loses to winless Whitney.
