HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS: Rogers, Salado win, advance to Class 2A Region IV quarterfinals

AUSTIN - Dana Schaffner blasted 27 kills and made eight blocks to lead fifth-ranked Rogers to a 23-25, 25-11, 25-15, 25-18 win over Geronimo Navarro in a Class 2A volleyball area-round playoff match Thursday night at Pflugerville Connally.

Kelsey Hudson had 43 assists, Nancy Macha contributed 11 kills and 10 digs and Nicholyn Carter-Maddux added 15 digs as the Lady Eagles (38-2) moved into the Region IV quarterfinals to play Harper or Wallis Brazos next week.

Brittany Luna had 13 digs and Kylie Mertz 12 for Rogers, which shared the District 25-2A championship with Salado and then won a tie-breaker match for the top playoff seed.

Hazzard leads way as No. 13 Salado outlasts No. 12 Poth

BUDA - Danielle Hazzard had 30 kills and 21 digs to help No. 13 Salado to a 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-13 victory over No. 12 Poth in a Class 2A area-round playoff match Thursday night at Hays High School.

Hadley Joiner and Jenna Sebek tallied 14 kills apiece for the Lady Eagles (34-5), who advanced to face Hallettsville in a Region IV quarterfinal next week. Kaitlyn Ruth had 54 assists and Lindsey Coffey posted 25 digs for Salado, which shared the District 25-2A title with Rogers and is the league's No. 2 seed.
